KUCHING: The RM112.9 million 6.2km access road project south of Kuching International Airport (KIA) is progressing smoothly, with 82 per cent of the work completed ahead of schedule.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the project is expected to be completed by June 28, 2025.
The scope of the project includes the construction of a new four-lane, two-way road from Stutong T-Junction to Bukit Berangan T-Junction via Stampin T-Junction, and a new two-lane, two-way road from Stampin T-Junction to Sungai Tapang T-Junction.
It also includes the upgrading of Stutong T-Junction, and the construction of a crossing to Sungai Tapang T-Junction, along with the construction of three reinforced concrete bridges over Sungai Kuap and Sungai Sangkoh.
Yap, along with officers from JKR Sarawak and representatives from contractor Reka Ikhtiar Sdn Bhd, conducted a site visit here today and received a briefing on the project’s progress.
“A significant portion of the access road lies within the Kota Sentosa constituency. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the area and provide an alternative route for motorists traveling from Samarahan and Serian districts,” he said in a statement.
He also said the project reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to develop the constituency.
He said since 2021, the constituency has received increased government allocations for various infrastructure projects and expressed optimism about securing more funding to address local infrastructure, traffic, drainage, and housing issues, ensuring comprehensive development by 2030.
