MIRI: Sarawak is able to enjoy harmony due to the spirit of racial unity which becomes a culture among the people of multi-racial and multi-religious backgrounds.

Head of the State, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud said the unity and harmony among Sarawakians should be preserved and maintained to ensure more developments in future.

“The solidarity among the people has brought a huge positive impact to their wellbeing and stability to the state.

“The success in uniting the people from various races and religions to work together to bring further progress to Sarawak has impressed others.

“It is good to acknowledge the efforts of all of us to foster good relationship between various races in Sarawak. Here, I would like to thank all of you who have contributed to this particular trend in Sarawak that makes me feel proud,” Pehin Sri Taib said in his speech when he officially launched Miri Islamic Complex here, on Friday night.

“I am pleased to note that leaders of today, including community leaders are committed to defending the prevailing unity in the state.

“Such spirit is keeping racial unity and harmony to come out almost naturally among our people. This shows that our society is taking a healthy trend.

“All the efforts done by those leaders including chief ministers in the past have produced positive results and this is being practised by us today,” he said.

The new Miri Islamic Complex here designed after the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain has become the latest attraction in this resort city.

The complex costing RM113 million houses several government departments and offices.

Among them are the Islamic Department, Syariah Judicial Department, Miri Resident Office, Miri District Office, Welfare Department, Treasury Department, Public Works Department and Forest Department.

Construction on the two-tower building began in March, 2014 and was fully completed in May last year. It is the third complex under the management of TBS, after those in Kuching and Sibu.

Also present at the event were Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg, members of State Cabinet, Heads of Departments and local dignitaries.
