KUCHING: A sum of RM116,300 has been donated by the Sarawak State Mosques Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) to 2,142 students comprising 184 orphans and 1,958 underprivileged children in conjunction with the board’s ‘Sumbangan Derma Ramadan’ (Ramadan contribution) event.
Held from May 13 to May 21, among the schools involved were Kolej Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdillah, Kolej Vokasional Matang, SM Sains Kuching, SM Sains Kuching Utara, SMT Sejingkat, SMK(A) Matang 2, SMK(A) Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab, SMK(A) Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, SMK Bako, SMK Datuk Patinggi Hj Abdul Gapor, SK Tabuan, SK Tabuan Hilir, SK Matang and SK Rampangi.
According to a statement today, this annual programme was aimed at helping underprivileged Muslim children to cope with their study expenses in school as well as strengthen ties with the schools involved.
Present to hand over the donations was Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) mayor who is also LAKMNS treasurer Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
Also present were Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha and LAKMNS general manager Mohamad Sabry Othman.
