BINTULU: Residents in 62 longhouses in the Kemena Tengah area, especially along Jalan Bintulu-Bakun will enjoy treated water supply when a project worth RM145 million is implemented later.
The project, which is fully funded by the Sarawak Government, will be tendered this month with the first project implementation package involves the construction as well as the connection of the main pipe rod.
Utility Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the first package is expected to take about 18 months to complete beginning next year.
Meanwhile, the second package, he said, involved the construction of a water plant in the area near Sebutin Bridge and will complete within two years.
“This clean water supply will be connected directly to the Nyabau Water Treatment Plant in Bintulu thus providing smooth and consistent water services to all residents throughout the area from Unji longhouse to Tubau,” he said when officiating the Community Police Workshop for Sebauh District at Rh Justin Agas, Sungai Selabit, Jalan Bintulu-Bakun, today.
Rundi, who is also the Kemena assemblyman, said four aspects, namely water supply, electricity, road network and telecommunications will be given emphasis and focus in the Kemena constituency.
“These four aspects will be implemented in stages and continuously in ensuring that all the people in the Kemena area and the state as a whole can enjoy the best infrastructure and facility in line with the aspirations of the people over the years,” he added.
At the ceremony, he also announced a minor rural project (MRP) grant of RM30,000 and RM20,000 respectively to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and the Women’s Bureau of the longhouse.
Political secretary to the chief minister, Jenny Bangga, and Sebauh district administrative officer, Baithy Tini Nikey were among those present.
