KUCHING: Floods continue to occur in Kota Padawan near here because the drainage system has not been upgraded which resulted in SJK Chung Hua Batu 10 in the bazaar experiencing flood problems quite regularly.

“We are now upgrading these earth drains to concrete ones for efficient discharge of rain water,” said Padawan Municipal Council chairman Lo Khere Chiang who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman.

“With the present drainage system, rain water from the roads is not able to flow smoothly into the drains because the drains have become too shallow which caused the water to overflow.

“It will cause flooding not only to the school but to the main road as well,” Lo said.

The drain upgrading project costing RM150,000 will start soon and is expected to be completed in a month’s time.
