SIMANGGANG: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) has allocated RM153.6 million for the development of irrigation and drainage infrastructure in Phase 1 of Block C and D, as well as the Lingga/Banting Jelapang Paddy Scheme.

Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli said that the project was estimated to be completed by 2026.

“KPKM is also in the process of implementing tertiary infrastructure construction and upgrading projects in Block A and Block B in Stumbin.

“The estimated cost of upgrading this infrastructure is RM19 million, and it is expected to be completed by 2027,” he said at the Leaders Meet the People event, held at Rh Florence Stumbin on Friday.

Furthermore, he said there was an ongoing collaboration between the Sarawak government and the federal government to implement various initiatives aimed at developing agricultural infrastructure in the Stumbin area, part of the Batang Lupar Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA).

“I hope to see this Stumbin area developed as the main rice granary in the Sarawak region to boost local rice production and improve the socioeconomics of the community,” he said.
