MUKAH: Plans are underway to introduce an eco park here with RM15 million allocated for the purpose, approved by the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA).
Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the proposal will be a boon to the tourism potential of the area, attracting both domestic and international tourists.
“With this project, it (the eco park) will become an ecotourism destination that attracts tourists from both within and outside Mukah.
“This indirectly elevates the socio-economic status of the surrounding population,” he said during his visit to the proposed site of the eco park to yesterday.
At the same time, Abdul Yakub stressed the importance of enhancing local amenities, including upgrading facilities for local produce sales and improving walkways and sheltered docks for coastal fishermen.
He said Tanjung Pedada’s poor facilities has deterred visitors due to safety concerns.
However, with the new eco park, he said it will rejuvenate the tourism potential and benefit the surrounding communities.
Abdul Yakub said the eco park will offer easy access via riverboat or road, being strategically located opposite the bustling Mukah Wet Market.
