MIRI: The Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM160 million to Beluru district to further improve and develop its basic amenities.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg announced this piece of good news in his speech during a brief visit to the SMK Tinjar, Lapok near here today.
The allocation includes RM33.6 million for the upgrading of the road in Ulu Teru, RM16.2 million for road upgrading in Sungai Peking, RM2 million for upgrading of longhouses along the Beluru-Long Lama, RM70 million for clean water supply to rural areas while the remaining balance is to be used for development of other religions (apart from Islam).
Earlier, Abang Johari was in Marudi for the launching of its waterfront construction works.
He said this allocation would for the upgrading of Beluru’s basic amenities such as electricity, clean water supply, upgrading works on the roads and local places of worships.
Beluru was elevated into a district in 2016 by the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem. It will have a district office and a sub-district office soon.
“I’m continuing what have been done by the late Tok Nan; last time Tok Nan approved the elevation of Beluru as a district and today I am approving an office to be built (for Beluru district) costing RM5 million,” said Abang Johari.
“And not just that, I’ve approved another RM5million to build an office for Beluru sub-district to provide convenience for the people in Tinjar,” he said.
The Chief Minister also announced that a community hall will be built in Tinjar at a cost of RM4.5million.
“SMK Tinjar hall which I officiate today is not fully completed, and as such, I’ve approved RM600,000 for its upgrading work,” he announced to thunderous applause.
Another RM600,000 was also allocated to help upgrade the school’s sport track.
Also present were Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahmah Hamzah, Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, and Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
