A TOTAL of RM18.5 million has been allocated in the Sarawak Budget 2025 for civil service training and development initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills and leadership capabilities of state employees.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that the allocation includes competency-based training for support staff to boost their skillsets, as well as executive leadership programmes designed for top management to cultivate strategic thinking and leadership skills essential for tackling complex challenges.

Abang Johari, who also serves as the Finance and New Economy Minister, said the allocation encompasses tailored programmes for emerging leaders to build a future-ready leadership pipeline.

Also, upskilling and reskilling programmes will ensure that the workforce can adapt and thrive in an evolving work environment.

“Acknowledging the importance of the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS)’s well-being, we will implement a series of initiatives in 2025 focused on the holistic development of our employees,” he said, noting that these well-being initiatives have been allocated a budget of RM1.8 million.

He made this announcement while tabling the second reading of the Sarawak Budget 2025 at the second meeting of the third session of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.

Abang Johari also highlighted the SCS’s commitment to improving its service delivery by streamlining processes, promoting inter-agency collaboration, reducing bureaucracy, implementing regulatory innovation, and leveraging behavioural insights.

These efforts aim to enhance service delivery and improve the ease of doing business in Sarawak.

To support these initiatives, RM21 million has been allocated to develop and enhance various government ICT projects across key sectors, while RM107 million has been set aside for the maintenance of these systems in 2025.
