RM180,000 for 2 chapels

DALAT: The state government through Unit For Other Religions (Unifor), presented two cheques worth RM180,000 for two chapels in Dalat constituency on Thursday.

The first cheque worth RM80,000 was presented to St Nicholas Chapel in Kampung Sungai Kut Muara while the second cheque valued at RM100,000 was given to Our Lady of Fatima Chapel in Kampung Sungai Ud.

Presenting the cheques was Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

“These cheques are assistance from the state government to other religions (apart from Islam) whether to build a church, chapel, temple and cemetery purposes.

“It is one of the state government’s efforts to ensure that no religion is left behind in terms of assistance and development.

“With this, we hope Sarawak, although comprising of different religions and races, every one of them is given equal attention and treatment,” she said on Thursday.

Fatimah who is also the Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister mentioned that the Unifor in 2018 had allocated an amount of RM628,000 for nine religious institutions other than Islam in the Dalat constituency.

Meanwhile, in 2019, four other institutions had received a total allocation of RM530,000 from Unifor.

“We hope we will continue to nurture the attitude of respecting one another and live in harmony in a multi-racial society.

“This is important because we want the Sarawakians to live in a sovereign and peaceful state,” she continued.
