SIBU: Fourteen individuals in Sibu Jaya here who threw caution to the wind despite increasing COVID-19 cases in the district ended up RM1,000 poor each.

Sibu police inspect eateries and other business for SOP compliance at the Sibu Jaya Commercial Centre.

They were compounded for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Tuesday (Feb 8).

The individuals were caught during an inspection carried out by an integrated SOP monitoring team at Sibu Jaya Commercial Centre. The enforcers were led by Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division chief DSP Ariffin Bahar.

Ariffin said the coffee shop operator had failed to ensure the customers complied with the SOPs.

“We have noticed that some traders and customers in Sibu Jaya have failed to comply with the SOPs.

“Among the offences committed were not scanning MySejahtera, failure to provide body temperature scanners and absence of separate lanes to enter and exit business premises. We had no choice but forced to issue the compound notices,” he said.

He said many were taking things for granted.

With cases starting to increase due to the Omicron variant, Ariffin reminded the public to abide by the SOPs.

He said the compounds were fixed at RM1,000, adding that no discounts would be given.

On another matter, he said no housebreaking cases and fatal accidents were recorded in Sibu during Ops Selamat from Jan 28 to Feb 6 in conjunction with the Lunar New Year festival.
