KUCHING: A lorry driver has been arrested and more than RM2 million worth of cigarettes and alcoholic drinks were seized during ‘Ops Landai’ held yesterday at 5am.
General Policing Superinentendent of the Royal Malaysian Marine Police, Supt Shamsol Kassim told that his operation team had earlier stopped the lorry for inspection at Mile 10, Jalan Ladeh in Padawan.
“We searched the lorry and found 125,500 packs of smuggled cigarettes of various types and brands. We also found 1,300 cartons of liquor of various types and brands.
“All the items including the lorry used by the suspect were seized,” he said.
The estimated worth of the items seized were RM2,470,200. The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967.
Shamsol also called on members of the public to channel more information as the marine force was working hard to crack down on smuggling activities.
