KUCHING: A man pleaded guilty before the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday (June 5) and paid a fine of RM2,000 for riding under the influence of alcohol on Sept 29, 2019.
Ahmad Safwan Hasbi, 23, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said that around 2.09am on Sept 29, a police team carried out ‘Ops Mabuk’ at Jalan Tabuan.
“The accused who was on his motorcycle was stopped by the team and his breath tested,” he said. After that, Ahmad was taken to Kuching Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division for further tests.
The result revealed that the alcohol content in his blood was 174mg/100ml which was more than the 94mg per 100ml and exceeded the allowed limit of 80mg per 100ml of blood.
Ahmad was investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving/riding with an alcohol concentration exceeding the prescribed limit and punishable under the same act.
