KABONG: A total of RM203,000 has been allocated to 48 longhouses in Kabong constituency for minor rural projects aimed at helping poor households.
Kabong assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir said under the second phase of the Sarawak Poor Household Improvement, the focus is on selected longhouses that need to be restored.
“In the first phase carried out since last year, 39 houses were restored successfully using an allocation of RM500,000. Work on the 48 longhouses in the second phase will begin once the allocation has been channelled,” he said during a briefing on phase two of the programme at the Kabong constituency service centre yesterday.
Mohd Chee said the project will be implemented in partnership with eligible persons including those registered under the e-Kasih programme as well as low-income households (classified as B40).
Among the criteria that have to be adhered to are: The head of a household must be registered under e-Kasih and has the status of his poverty verified at the District Office; he/she lives within the area of the local authority; his/her damaged home is on his/her own land.
Mohd Chee pointed out that the GPS government had never neglected any disadvantaged group.
“The government is always concerned about the welfare of the people regardless of status, rank and so on. All the problems of the people are taken into account regardless of who they are,” he said.
