RM20k given to start Education Trust Fund

KAPIT : The Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Malaysia, Datuk Alexander NantaLinggi who is also the Member of Parliament for Kapit and the State Assemblyman for Bukit Goram, Jefferson Jamit Unyat contributed RM10,000 each totalling to RM20,000 for the setting up of Tabung Amanah Pendidikan (Education Trust Fund) for the Muslim community in Kapit district.

Nanta made the announcement while officiating at Majlis Ramah TamahAidilFitri that was jointly organised by the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of KampungBaru and PartiPesakaBumiputeraBersatu (PBB) KampungBaru branch held at DewanMasyarakatMelayuKapit on Tuesday evening.

He was responding to the request by the organising chairman, Councillor MohdIlahiJunaidi on behalf of the Muslim community in Kapit district for the setting up of the Education Trust Fund at the function.

He lauded the Muslim community here for their initiative to set up the education trust fund that he believed could benefit the Muslim students here in pursuing their studies.

On the other requests by the organising committee include the purchase of canopy for the small scale traders and the purchase of sewing machines, Nanta pledged that he will assist them and insisted to the JKKK to carry out a survey and provide a figure on how many canopies and sewing machines that they needed. On the proposal for the renovation of the Dewan Masyarakat Melayu Kapit, Nanta told them to provide the estimate and BQ (bills of quantity) for the renovation work.

According to Cr. Ilahi the Education Trust Fund is to cater for the educational needs of the Muslim community at the three villages (KampungBaru, Kampung Muhibbah and the new Malay settlement scheme at Bleteh).

Meanwhile Nanta and Jamit has also announced a grant of RM5,000 each amounting to RM10,000 to the organising committee for the Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri celebration.

At the function both Nanta and Jamit presented ‘Duit Raya’ to the senior citizens and children below 18 years old and below 12 years old.

Also present at the function were Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong Punan, Deputy Resident Galong Luang, Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit, Assistant Secretary of Kapit District Council KelimbikSibat, Deputy Walikota of the council Councillor Lawrence Listing Baling, Penghulu Sia Shui Poh, Penghulu Wong KieIng, KapitanYiapYii Hoo, Kapitan Kong Cheak Hie, heads of the various government departments, councillors of Kapit District Council namely Michael Nyantaw, LiewHuiHwa, Jenny Yu Sii Geok, Jimmy Jadam and Ilahi Junaidi and some 300  others.
