KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen has allocated more than RM220,000 to assist in refurbishing and upgrading facilities at Klinik Kesihatan Tanah Puteh.

He recently paid a visit to the clinic with Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong in response to public complaints about the toilets.

He pointed out that the visit was also to find out and better understand the needs of the clinic.

“We inspected the toilets for patients and staff on the ground floor as we received multiple complaints that they were a bit too small and not suitable for people with disabilities (OKU).

“The women’s toilets are currently squatting toilets only which are very inconvenient especially for elderly patients. We were also told that a few patients had fallen down in the toilets,” he said today.
Dr Yii added they were looking at engaging a few contractors to view the toilets and draw up proper plans as well as quotations to upgrade the toilets.

“From there, my office will allocate some funds ncluding the need to upgrade some of the pipping in the clinic.

“We want to ensure that patients and staff get the best facilities at the clinic. This is to avoid any unwanted accidents in the toilets as well,” he added.

Dr Yii pointed out that since he was appointment as a MP, his office had continuously helped to address the needs of the clinic which was one of the oldest here.
“In fact, we have allocated more than RM220,000 so far to the clinic to refurbish the clinic, repaint the inside, upgrade the air-conditioning, purchase dental and medical equipment and supplies. Besides that, we have built an outdoor awning so that ambulance can drop patients under a shade and patients can wait outside even when it is raining.

“We have tried our best to provide as much as we can to the clinic including personal protective equipment (PPE) and COVID-19 screening bay areas by putting up barriers to make sure water does not flow into the area,” he said.

He assured that he woulddo his best to provide a better environment so that medical staff could provide better quality medical services to the people and patients.

“This clinic is a government clinic with a long history and its location happens to be in the middle of Kuching City parliamentary constituency. In fact, many doctors have served this clinic for many years.

“I always emphasise that medical staff are the forefront of medical care so their welfare must be attended to. This is to ensure better quality medical services to the people and patients,” he added.
