KUCHING: RM223 million has been allocated for agricultural activities in Demak Laut, namely, in Beradek, Semilang, Tiang Api, Bako, Tanjung Bako and Sungai Nepong.
The project, known as the ‘Projek Ladang Rakyat ’ aims to improve the people’s socioeconomic status through the planting of crops such as paddy, rubber, coconut, fruits, herbs as well as the farming of fish, prawn, poultry and meat.
In his speech while debating on the Supply Bill, Demak Laut State Assemblyman, Dr. Hazland Hipni said that there would be agriculture courses for any budding farmer s or youths.
“St rategies to improve the crop yield in Demak Laut include establ ishing an Agr icul tural Research Centre, producing a more effective crop marketing system, establishing a collection, building processing and packaging centre and also creating an Agricultural Incentive for coconuts, pepper, palms, fruits and cattle integration. “When the Bako Br idge i s completed next year, we hope that it will facilitate all these efforts,” said Hazland.
