A SUM of RM250 million was allocated to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) under the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK-11) to provide affordable homes for the low income groups.

According to   Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, 1,768 homes were built in various areas throughout the state to provide affordable homes for the low income groups.

“Apart from this, HDC was allocated a total sum of RM127 million to implement an amenity project in Sibu and 13 related infrastructure projects in Kuching, Sibu, Sri Aman, Betong and Miri Division,” said Sim during his winding up speech at the State Legislative Assembly in Kuching yesterday.

Sim also pointed out the provision of  homes for the low income groups was the joint responsibility of the State and Federal Government.

He said the current arrangement was for HDC to provide the land and the Federal Government through the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Malaysia (KPKT) to provide funding for the development of the houses.

“Both projects are scheduled for completion in 2020 and my ministry will continue to pursue  more funding from the Federal Government to provide more affordable housing for the B40 group,” said Sim.
