BOTH the state and federal governments have spent more than RM27.17 million on programmes to curb the spread of rabies.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the state government spent RM20.31 million whereas the federal government spent RM6.86 million.
“Rabies control and elimination programmes remain as a high priority by the state government,” he said.
He said this when delivering the winding-up speech for the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) today.
“Since 2017, a total of 190,349 dogs and cats have been vaccinated and about 40,000 stray dogs were removed,” he said.
Uggah also appealed to the public to get treatment immediately if they were bitten by an animal as rabies is curable if treated early.
