KUCHING: The state government’s allocation of RM30 million to the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) is being put into good use.
Unifor director Datuk Dr Ngenang Janggu revealed that all non-Muslim groups are benefitting from the allocation.
“We have received RM20 million and another RM10 million will be received by the end of the year because the allocation was divided into two tranches,” he said when asked by reporters at an event here, yesterday.
He added that the RM20 million allocation has been distributed to houses of worship where some have used the funds to repair and upgrade their buildings while others were still in the planning stage.
Ngenang explained that Unifor was currently focusing on the physical development of houses of worship.
“I am very pleased with the allocation given as it will expedite the construction and repair process,” he said.
“The projects are being monitored by Unifor’s Infrastructure Division to ensure the funds provided are spent properly.
“We don’t know the exact amount of allocation we will receive from the government but we are sure it will be more than what we received this year.”
Unifor has funded 77 projects in 2017 and more than 200 projects in 2018 as well as 2019.
