PUTRAJAYA: The federal government is set to provide a significant boost to public university students by introducing a RM300 subsidy for domestic flights between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, effective from August 15.
Announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, the initiative will be facilitated through a credit system and eligible students will receive digital vouchers worth RM300, which can be redeemed towards the purchase of their flight tickets.
With a targeted reach of 56,000 students enrolled in public universities, the programme carries a total cost estimate of RM16.8 million.
The subsidy comes with certain conditions, requiring students to originate from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, or Labuan, and currently pursue their studies in one of these states.
