KAPIT: The Sarawak government today has approved a sum of RM353 million to implement various development projects in the division.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said one of the development projects is to alleviate traffic congestion in Kapit.
“We notice that Kapit is rapidly developing following the completion of roads, and this demonstrates the effectiveness of our Kapit development plan.
“Thus, to thank the people of Kapit and also to solve the problem of traffic jams, we will upgrade the roads in all Kapit towns at a cost of RM190 million.
“This has been approved today. This is our gift to the people of Kapit, and we hope that Kapit will continue to develop as a major town in this Rajang area,” he said.
Abang Johari made this announcement in his speech during the tea banquet in conjunction with the state-level birthday celebration of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Kapit Town Square today.
The Premier also mentioned another development project, which he said would cost RM105 million, would involve road constructions between Ulu Sungai Katibas and Jalan Sungai Bangkit.
“As we are developing Sungai Tunoh in Ulu Mujong here, the area needs electricity.
“Therefore, we will also create a 35-kilometre electricity grid from Kapit to Tunoh,” he said.
Earlier, Abang Johari also conveyed his appreciation to the people of Sarawak, including those from Kapit, for the huge mandate given to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the last state election.
