BINTULU: A RM38 million water project in Maskat here has reached 97.43 per cent completion as of July, according to Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.
The project includes the construction of a booster pumping station, a new water tank and an extensive pipeline system, crucial for improving water supply in the region.
Julaihi assured that the project is currently in the testing and commissioning phase.
“Located nearly an hour’s drive from Bintulu town, this project encompasses a new water tank with a capacity of 2 million litres, a 450 mm ductile iron (D.I) pipeline system extending 18 km from the Nyabau Water Treatment Plant to Simpang Sebauh, a booster station with a suction tank, and the installation of 160 mm HDPE pipelines to the longhouses in the area,” he said in a Facebook post.
Earlier, he visited the Maskat booster pumping station, water tank, and pipeline system, accompanied by Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) director Awang Fadillah Awg Reduan, JBALB deputy director Ahmad Selihin, and others.
This initiative is part of the Sarawak Water Grid System, aimed at ensuring a reliable and high-quality water supply for the local population.
The project is expected to benefit 37 longhouses, providing water access to approximately 3,745 residents in the Bintulu parliamentary constituency, including the Kemena and Samalaju state constituencies.
Funding for this project comes entirely from the Sarawak government’s budget, reflecting its commitment to addressing water supply challenges in rural areas.
