The Sarawak government will allocate an RM40 million operating grant to the Centre of Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) next year, further supporting its mission to drive digital skill development.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that CENTEXS Digital Academy is set to receive RM20 million in 2025 for infrastructure, facilities, and technologies aimed at upskilling and reskilling, thereby fostering a digitally skilled workforce.
In addition, the GETS Programme —targeted at reducing graduate unemployment by equipping young Sarawakians with market-relevant skills — will provide a monthly allowance of RM1,500 per graduate next year.
“Under this Budget, RM23 million will be allocated in 2025, benefiting 1,000 graduates,” he said, adding that these graduates will gain opportunities for training in both the public and private sectors, with an emphasis on soft skills, leadership, and team-building.
He made these announcements while presenting the Sarawak Budget 2025 during the second reading at the second meeting of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) session today.
Furthermore, Abang Johari highlighted the establishment of SMD Semiconductor, a wholly state-owned company specializing in designing analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs) or chips.
“SMD Semiconductor will collaborate with world-class foundry partners, such as X-FAB, on chip development, and focus on cultivating highly skilled talent in the industry for Sarawak. Next year, RM11.6 million will be allocated for its operations,” he said.
The Budget also includes RM6 million for continuous professional development training under SMD Semiconductor to enhance its talent development initiatives in 2025.
