KUCHING: The implementation of a road alignment project worth RM45 million will link five villages in Santubong constituency namely, Kampung Tanjuk, Sungai Pinang, Semilang Beradek, Tiang Api and Beliong.
Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar stated that altogether, the road project will be 17km-long.
“As a start, the Public Works Department (JKR) will discuss with the community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) of the area for the purpose of road survey and evaluation.
“From thereon, the planning is expected to be done before April next year and the proposal will be submitted to the state government for approval.
“After that, we hope the tendering process can take place by June and July next year,” he told a press conference after attending a meeting on the upgrading project of Jalan Kebun Kampung Beradek Semilang at JKR Southern Regional Office at Jalan Batu Lintang here, yesterday.
About 5,000 residents of the five villages will benefit from the road connectivity once the project reaches completion.
Wan Junaidi added that once the project is completed, another road project will take place involving a 6km stretch from the main road to the villages connecting to Tanjung Bako straight to Stakan area.
This is not the first time the road project in the aforementioned villages is being addressed as it has been on a delay for several years now.
To this, Wan Junaidi pointed out that the project was planned in 2017 and has even been approved by the then federal government (Barisan Nasional). However, the project was suspended due to the appointment of consultant issue until Pakatan Harapan took over the government.
