KUCHING: A trader was fined RM4,000, in default two months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrates’ Court here on Friday (April 29) for selling fireworks and firecrackers without a permit on April 20.Matjaya Sidi, 49, pleaded guilty to the charge read out by an interpreter before magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

He was charged under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 for possessing 450 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers of various types.

In a raid on a cafe in Jalan Satok at about 2.10pm on April 20, police seized several boxes of fireworks and firecrackers.

The accused also failed to produce any legal permit that allowed him to possess and sell fireworks and firecrackers.

ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted while the accused was not represented.
