KUCHING:  Bau will see an upturn of fortune over the next 11 years.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg launched the Bau Development Blueprint 2016-2030 yesterday at Dataran Bazaar Krokong, Bau.

“The development plan will cost RM526.02 mln which is no small amount,” he said at the launch.

Abang Johari said that the state government would adhere to the blueprint and lauded Bau natives for their efforts to uplift their hometown.

The book “The Blueprint for Bau District 2016 – 2030” was launched as part of Bau District Office’s 88 years of service.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the blueprint was a vision of Bau district’s development plan from the year 2016 to 2030 and consisted of eight components, namely basic amenities and infrastructure; housing and real estate; tourism, art, culture, and sports; agriculture; human capital development; land matters; publishing; investment and industry.

“The book was not something we plucked out of the sky, it is the product of thorough planning and discussions by our think tank team which consists of the best of the best natives of Bau consisting of academicians, technocrats, and intellectuals since 2016,” said Henry.

“The idea was developed through discussions between Bau stakeholders who consist of Miro Simuh (Serembu assemblyman), Lo Khere Chiang (Batu Kitang assemblyman), Ranum Mina (Opar assemblyman) and myself along with local agencies including Bau District Office, Bau Distric Council, and Bau Public Works Department through a workshop held this year,” he added.

Henry said because the district was analysing the government’s policies and the state’s development curve, the blueprint was only ready to be launched in 2019 instead of 2016.

He explained that the blueprint was subject to change over the coming years and should serve as a guide and reference for the development of Bau.

“This is in unison with the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) and Sarawak’s plan to become the most advanced state in Malaysia by 2030,” he added.
