MIRI: The Customs Department seized contraband cigarettes and beer worth RM54,509.85 inclusive of tax following a raid here on Tuesday morning.
The raid was conducted at a house in Desa Pujut 2 Phase 6, Bandar Baru Permyjaya.
A man, believed to be one of the workers, was also nabbed by the department to assist in the investigation.
“A total of 24,000 sticks of cigarettes and 1,455.58 litres of beer with unpaid taxes of RM44,980.38 were found in the house and were later seized during the 10.30am raid,” said state Customs Department director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha in a press statement issued yesterday.
The contrabands were discovered inside one of the bedrooms in the house.
The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967.
