KUCHING: Incent ives wor th RM562, 000 were given to Sarawakian athletes who brought home medals during the recent 29th SEA Games and 9th ASEAN PARA Games.
The purpose of the event was to celebrate the success of Sarawakian athletes who participated during both games and performed well. For the 29th SEA Games, Malaysia came up with a medal tally of 323 medals and out of that number, Sarawakian athletes contributed 31 medals.
As for the 9th ASEAN PARA Games, Malaysia scored 258 medals and Sarawakian athletes contributed 50 medals.
Incentives were given in the form of cash, namely RM10,000 per gold medal, RM7,000 per silver medal, and RM5,000 per bronze medal. The incentives were presented during an appreciation dinner which was held at Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Datuk Abang Openg was the guest of honour at the event, along with his wife Datin Patinggi Dato Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth, and Sports Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family, and Childhood Development Dato Sri Hajjah Fat imah Abdul lah, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, and other guests.
