DARO: Residents of Pulau Bruit will soon benefit from a RM60 million clean water supply project which will deliver five million litres of water per day (MLD) once completed by the end of this year.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg assured residents that the project would resolve their water supply issues and provide them access to clean water.

“We need water to survive, to perform prayers, to marry, and for childbirth. Finally, we found a solution. I’m pleased to announce that by the end of this year, a project to supply clean water to Pulau Bruit will be completed.

“I am pleased to announce that a project is underway to provide clean water supply to Pulau Bruit by the end of this year.

“This project, costing over RM60 million, will ensure Pulau Bruit has sufficient water through a pipeline system that will deliver five million litres of water per day,” he said at the Pulau Bruit Festival 2024 held at the Rural Growth Centre (RGC) commercial site in Semop here on Saturday (Sept 14).

Abang Johari also outlined other infrastructural developments in Pulau Bruit, including the construction of bridges to connect the island to several districts.

“When I became Chief Minister in 2017, I announced plans to build bridges connecting Batang Lassa and Batang Paloh, so that Pulau Bruit would no longer be isolated.

“Pulau Bruit would be connected to Daro, then to Mukah, and onward to Tanjung Manis, Sibu and Sarikei,” he said.

He explained that these bridges will make travel easier, providing better access to essential services and economic opportunities.

“It has been my ambition since I was young, when I visited the area by boat, navigating rough waters. Today, that dream is coming true with the allocation of funds for these bridges.

“And it’s no small sum — around RM1 billion. But with good intentions, inspiration comes from above. God has blessed us, and we have been able to increase Sarawak’s revenue, which I am now investing back into the construction of the bridge.

“I don’t make empty promises. When I announce something, I see it through. Otherwise, it would be deceiving the people,” he added.
