KUCHING: Some 190km of logging roads in Baram will be upgraded into motorable roads at a total cost of RM66 million.
Minister of Rural Development Datuk Dr Abd Latiff Ahmad said the projects were in various stages of consultancy.
“We will call for tender for the project in February next year,” he said when replying to a question from Baram MP Anyi Ngau in Parliament yesterday.
Abd Latiff said this was part of three rural projects costing a total of RM79.39 million approved in Baram under the 11th Malaysia Plan.
The other project was a bridge costing RM4 million at Long Sobeng River, Ulu Tinjar. It is currently in the design process and would be tendered in December this year.
The third project involved upgrading of Long Jegan Road in Marudi at a cost of RM9 million. The 3.7km road was completed in August last year.
Abd Latiff assured that his ministry would coordinate development in the rural areas of Baram with the Highland Development Agency (HDA) created by the state government to oversee development in the region.
