MIRI: The 18.99km-long Ulu Suai Road project near here costing RM68mil has been completed.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas visited the former gravel/earth road, now a JKR R3 standard road, to check on its new condition on Wednesday (Feb 15).

The upgrading work used the Cold in-situ Pavement Recycling (CIPR) Technology with Chip Seal Surface Dressing.

The technique is a treatment process of road that has structural defects.

The upgrading consisted of drainage system improvement, including culvert replacements, construction of new culverts, provision of road side drains and drainage on slopes.

It also included provisions of all necessary road furniture like road signs, pavement markings, guardrails, ground treatment and retaining structures where needed.

According to Uggah, the CIPR technology might be used to upgrade more former logging roads and plantation roads in the state’s rural areas.

He was joined during the visit by his deputy Datuk Majang Renggi and Sarawak JKR director Ir Richard Tajan.
