KUCHING: The residents of Kampung Samariang Batu will have a new mosque as their current one is unable to accommodate the needs of the people.
Although there are other mosques in nearby areas, those mosques are often full, hence the need for a new mosque at the said village.
“What’s unique about this mosque is that it will be next to a school and thus, could be used by the school for activities.
“It can also be used to ease traffic problems. The road there is narrow and when parents send or fetch their children from school, it causes traffic congestion.
“With the parking space around the mosque, parents can park their cars there and thus help to ease the traffic flow,” said Fadillah, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate and incumbent for Petra Jaya.
At the same time, he urged members of the public to donate to the mosque’s ‘wakaf’ to help in collecting funds to build the mosque.
The proposed mosque has an overall cost of RM8.5 million and will be constructed in several phases. Phase 1 will be land reclamation and this can take between one and two years.
Fadillah said this during the site ground-breaking ceremony for Phase 1 which took place at Kampung Samariang Batu here, yesterday.
