RM8,000 in grants for longhouse

SRI AMAN: During a ‘Ngiling Tikai’ (end of Gawai celebration) at Rumah Thomas Ramba, Brangan Ulu here recently Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis announced a grant of RM5,000 to the longhouse and RM3,000 to the Women’s Bureauof the longhouse.

In his speech he also reminded longhouse chiefs and village headmen to plan economic development in areas under their adminstration.

“This is important so that people under your charge can improve their living standard. In fact the rural economy can be improved with proper planning and implementation.

Among the economic activities that can be undertaken are commerical farming, and setting up of business in longhouses,” he told those present.

He also advised village devleopment and security committees (JKKK) to set up an education bureau in their villages and longhouses to ensure that the children are well educated for the future challenges.

Among those present were Deputy Walikota of Sri Aman, Councillor Andar Suntai, SUPP Simanggang Women’s chief, Lim Siew Hung, a representative of Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Department,, Jilin Itar, Pemanca Lee Siang Hua and local community leaders.
