SARATOK: A handover ceremony was held at the Saratok District Office hall for the victims of the fire at Rh Spencer, Ulu Sebetan, here.
Senator Pele Peter Tinggom attended the ceremony to distribute donations to the victims affected by the fire that occurred on Aug 21.
The fire significantly impacted the residents, destroying their homes and belongings. To help ease their burden, the Sarawak State Development Office has stepped in to provide welfare and disaster relief assistance.
A total of RM8,500 will be distributed to 58 affected households to aid them in rebuilding their lives.
“The government is always attentive to the plight of those in need, especially in disaster situations like this,” Pele said during the donation ceremony.
“We are fortunate to have government leaders who are committed to addressing the people’s needs through systems like eKasih, which allows aid to be channelled more accurately and effectively.”
Pele noted the government’s commitment to helping those in need, particularly during disasters, and highlighted that with the eKasih system, aid distribution is now more efficient and precise, ensuring assistance reaches those who truly require it.
“With continued support and joint efforts, we hope the situation will improve, and the lives of the residents of Rh Spencer will return to normal,” he added.
Also present at the ceremony were Khalid Andong, Deputy Resident of Betong; Radiah Muhamed @ Muhamad, chief assistant director of the Sarawak State Development Office, Sri Aman Zone; Laga Kueh, Saratok District Administrative Officer; and Putra Ila, head of the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station.
