KUCHING: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has approved an allocation amounting to RM9,191,941 for 160 Chinese national-type primary schools (SJKC) in Sarawak that hold Government Aided Schools (SBK) status this year.

Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying emphasised that the objective of the allocation is to support the maintenance and repair of the schools’ infrastructure.

“In Sarawak, there are a total of 190 SJKCs with SBK status, of which 160 have applied for allocation and all have been approved.

“Some of the allocations have been channelled and the rest are in the process of being channelled to their respective District Education Offices (PPD),” she said.

She was speaking to the media at SK Laksamana after visiting four schools around Kuching on Wednesday (Sept 27).

She expressed hopes for all schools to optimise the use of the funding to ensure the safety and comfort of the students.

Lim, into her third day of her working visit to Sarawak, approved a sum of RM670,000 for seven schools for the upgrading, improving and maintaining of their respective infrastructure.

The breakdown of the allocation includes RM100,000 each for SJK Chung Hua No. 5, SJKC Sungai Apong, SK Laksamana, SK Garland, and SMK Green Road. 

Meanwhile, SMK Bandar Kuching No. 1 received RM120,000, and SK St David Bumbok received RM50,000.

Lim reiterated that the maintenance assistance from the MoE is to ensure that the building, equipment, and school environment are always safe, comfortable, clean and conducive to learning. 

“Such conditions can foster a positive teaching and learning experience while motivating students to excel in both the curriculum and co-curricular activities,” she added.

Also accompanying her on the visit were Stampin MP and Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen; Kho Teck Wan, a political secretary to the Sarawak Premier; Sarawak Education director Datuk Azhar Ahmad and SK Laksamana headmaster Admiral Mahdi Mantali.
