KUALA LUMPUR: Two Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft yesterday flew medical equipment to Sabah and Sarawak for use by frontliners in the fight against Covid-19.
RMAF, in a statement, said the medical equipment comprised 2.9 million face masks, 44 boxes of aerosol, additional clinical specimens for the Ministry of Health (MOH) facilities as well as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
“The first A400M transport aircraft, piloted by Capt Mohd Hafiz Mat Yusof with his assistant Capt Muhd Izwan Noor Azman and three crew members, carried over 2.9 million face masks from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma). It departed Subang air base at about 8.15 am and arrived at Kota Kinabalu Airport at 11 am.
“The face masks have been handed over to the Sabah Civil Defence Force as the State and District Disaster Management Secretariat. Of this number of face masks, 2,860,000 pieces are for Sabah while 107,500 pieces will be channelled to the Federal Territory of Labuan,” the statement said.
It said the second A400M aircraft departed at 10.51 am and was flown by Capt Fitrie Idham Kamaruddin and co-pilot Capt Mohd Amir Shahrin, with five crew members.
“The aircraft carried 44 boxes of aerosol donated by the Old Putera Association for the Sabah Health Department and additional clinical specimens for MOH facilities.
“The medical equipment is from MOH, Malaysia Relief Agency and Nadma,” it added.
It said RMAF would mount another flight in the near future to deliver 2,718,500 face masks from Nadma to Sarawak. – Bernama
