Senior citizen dies in crash into ditch

In Bintulu, a senior citizen died after a four-wheel drive vehicle he was driving crashed into a ditch in front of Bintulu Hospital here on Saturday night (July 25).

The incident happened around 11pm and the victim Albert Ato, 59, was confirmed dead at the scene at 6.39am.

Sarawak Operations Centre (PGO) said in a statement that as soon as it received an emergency call at 11.26pm, six firefighters led by Senior Fire Officer II, Helman Main from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene.

When the firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the victim’s vehicle in the ditch.

They used tools to remove the victim who was trapped under the vehicle.

The victim’s body was later sent to Bintulu Hospital. 

Man trapped under car in 3-vehicle pile-up

In Sibu, a three-vehicle pile-up occurred at Jalan Lanang here at 10.05pm last Saturday (July 25).

The accident involved a Proton Saga FLX car, driven by a 32-year-old man, which crashed into the rear of a Myvi car, with a 21-year-old male driver in it.

The Proton Saga FLX then crashed into another Proton Saga car, which was parked on the shoulder of the road, belonged to a 34-year-old man.

The victim of the Proton Saga FLX was thrown out of the driver’s seat and trapped under the car, on the left side of the front bumper.

A team of firemen managed to remove the victim using a lifting bag and he was later taken to hospital for treatment, while the Myvi driver was unharmed.

The victim is seen protruding from under the left side of the car.

Cop injured in accident

In Miri, a policeman got injured in a crash near a traffic light junction at Jalan Datuk Sri Joseph Balan Seling last Saturday.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, the 25-year-old policeman attached with Lutong police station was on his way back to his home in Permyjaya when the 3.20pm accident happened.

“The motorcycle he was riding collided with a car coming from the opposite direction,” said Lim.

However, the car’s driver, a 39-year-old nurse, was unharmed.

“The policeman has been rushed to Miri Hospital for treatment,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987

Biker dies of serious injuries

Also in Miri, a 29-year-old motorcyclist died of serious head and body injuries in an accident with a jeep at KM 1 Jalan Padang Kerbau last Saturday.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the deceased was identified as Mohamad Norbeck Maula Arbi from Desa Indah, Bandar Baru Permyjaya.

“He was heading towards Miri Hospital from Saberkas Roundabout when he collided with the jeep that was making a right turn at around 4.10pm.

“The victim was pronounced dead at Miri Hospital around 7.36pm,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
