KUCHING: Several major roads in the city will be temporarily closed to accommodate the 39th National Chinese Cultural Festival.
According to the Federation of Chinese Associations of Sarawak, the road closures will be in effect from 4 pm to 10 pm tomorrow (Sept 14) and Sunday (Sept 15).
The affected roads include Jalan Gambier, Jalan Main Bazaar, and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg.
“The exit from Merdeka Plaza to the Waterfront will also be closed during this time,” the federation said.
“Limited access will be available on the road in front of the Old Court House during the day.”
The public is advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid any inconvenience.
One of the highlights of the festival is the Lantern Parade Creative Competition, which will begin at 7 pm tomorrow (Sept 14).
“With a large crowd expected, we encourage attendees to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion and ensure a smooth experience,” it added.
The festival, organised by the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia, Federation of Chinese Associations Sarawak, and Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, will feature a variety of cultural activities from today (Sept 13) at the Waterfront Park and Old Bazaar area.
Over 1,500 participants from 20 teams, representing diverse ethnic groups including Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Dayak, will take part in the parade.
