KUCHING: Members of the public are advised to take note of three road closures for the Street Parade rehearsals tomorrow and friday (Aug 4), and 11 road closures on the day of the event on Aug 5.
The roads closed for rehearsals from 6 pm onwards, are Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman-Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Borneo-Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Padungan-Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Meanwhile, for the road closures on the day of the event from 12 pm onwards are Jalan Padungan-Sri Aman roundabout; Jalan Ban Hock-Sri Aman roundabout; Sri Aman roundabout-Jalan Abell; Jalan Abell-Hotel Longhouse traffic light; off Jalan Abell-exit to Jalan Padungan (Jalan Chan Chin Ann); Jalan Song Thian Cheok-Jalan Padungan; Jalan Bukit Mata traffic light-Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman; SK St Mary’s traffic light-Jalan Mcdougall-Jalan Wayang; Jalan St Temple-Jalan Wayang; Jalan Main Bazaar-Jalan Gambir; and Jalan Pearl traffic light-Wawasan-Jalan Tun Abg Hj Openg.
Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah, in a statement, said these road closures are to ensure the smooth process of the Street Parade in conjunction with Sarawak’s 60 years Independence.
The parade will be participated by a total of 60 contingents that will start at Travilion and end at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg.
In this regard, he advised the public to park their vehicles at designated areas namely Reservoir Park, Saujana Building, Medan Pelita, the parking lots of Sarawak Plaza and Merdeka Plaza, Civic Centre, Tun Jugah building, Jubilee Ground parking area, as well as around Travillion and Petanak areas,” he said.
Ahsmon also reminded the public to avoid parking by the roadside and adhere to the traffic control signs directed by on-duty policemen.
