KUCHING: Police have announced a series of road closures, starting from 3 pm on Aug 17 to ensure the official opening for the Sukma XXI runs smoothly.
Kuching district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said these closures are aimed at managing the anticipated heavy traffic and ensuring a safe and organised flow of vehicles in and around the stadium area.
The affected locations include several key intersections and access points, such as the Sesco Roundabout, Kesuma Resort Roundabout, and various entry points to the Sarawak State Stadium.
“Additionally, detours will be in place, including a closure before the Kampung Stadium junction, to facilitate the movement of vehicles heading to the event.
“Residents are advised to plan their journeys carefully. Those approaching from the Sesco Roundabout should make a U-turn at the Casuarina Roundabout and proceed via Casuarina Road to access Stadium Road (Ring).
“Meanwhile, vehicles travelling on Diplomatic Road will have direct access to the parking area behind Sarawak Stadium,” he said.
For those exiting the event, police have outlined specific routes to minimise congestion. Vehicles parked at Sarawak Stadium should use Diplomatic Road towards Demak, while those on Stadium Road (Ring) are advised to exit via Casuarina Road.
Farhan has called for public cooperation in adhering to these traffic arrangements. He emphasised the importance of avoiding parking along road shoulders and urged the people to consider alternative routes to avoid traffic bottlenecks.
