KAPIT: The 73km access road project to the Baleh Hydroelectric Project (HEP) Dam, from Nanga Mujong in Kapit to Sungai Dapu, is expected to complete according to schedule, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Uggah, who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development elaborated that the project, which involved three packages and 15 phases, is currently 97 per cent in completion.
“We are pleased to note that the road is 97 per cent completed. We hope that whatever problems we faced that delayed the project before will be resolved.
“We notice that the work at the final phase seems to be very smooth. So we are confident that the project will be completed according to schedule, which is by the end of this month,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters during a site visit to the road construction site yesterday (August 8).
The project is part of the state’s long-term plan to improve its network of roads infrastructure, focusing on generating opportunities for socio-economic growth and development.
Once completed, the access road will lead to the Baleh Hydroelectric Dam.
This development will facilitate the construction and operation of the Baleh HEP Dam, connect all settlement areas, and benefit 9,200 people living along Batang Baleh.
Additionally, it will reduce travel time from three hours by express boat to one hour by road from Kapit to Baleh.
Also present at the site visit were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Law and Customs) cum Bukit Goram assemblyman Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat and Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.
