KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman, Jefferson Jamit Unyat, said he allocated more than RM100,000 for the construction of a recently completed concrete road leading to various cemeteries at Kilometre 3, Jalan Selirik.

The burial grounds are the Foochow Association Cemetery, Tai San Ten Association Cemetery, Chiang Chuan Association Cemetery and Kapit District Council Common Burial Ground.

“This road is for the benefit of everyone – Dayaks, Chinese, all those who use the cemeteries,” said Jamit after he inspected the road on Wednesday morning.

“I am happy with the road contractor. He did the job according to the scope of work as stated in the contract,” he said.

The concreted stretch of the road paid from Jamit’s Rural Transformation Project (RTP) fund is more than two hundred metres long and fifteen feet wide.

The first three hundred metres from the main road, Jalan Selirik, were concreted earlier by Kapit District Council.

The road runs between the Foochow Association Burial Ground and “Kongsi Sun” Burial ground. Jamit added that he would allocate some more money next year to improve the part constructed by the council a few years ago. That part is narrow and thus needs further improvement.

Accompanying Jamit during the site inspection were Councillor Liew Hui Hua, chairman of SUPP Kapit, James Ling Thian Ing, Jamit’s assistants Cochran Amos and Alexson Nila respectively.
