KUCHING: Guro City of Seoul in South Korea has named one of its roads, Kuching South RO as another mark of its friendship with the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the naming of the road marked another important historical milestone for both cities.
“We are not just putting Kuching South onto the roadmap of the city of Seoul, in particular Guro city, but it represents efforts of the successive mayors and councillors of Guro and Kuching South to strengthen the exchanges beyond city council to the people, education institutions, business institutions as well as the Kuching City South and Guro City for years to come, not just for the last 10 years.
“Therefore, I would like to wish heartiest congratulations to both cities on this successful event,” he said in his speech during the Unveiling of Kuching South Road yesterday.
Meanwhile MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said MBKS has signed with Guro City as a friendship city in 2012.
“In 2019, when I took over as the mayor of MBKS, that is the first friendship city that I have visited. Through our meeting in 2019, the Guro City agreed to name a road, Kuching South Ro in enhancing the relationship and marked the 10th anniversary of our friendship cities, this year 2022.
“The naming of the road was approved and put up in 2020 and we thank Guro City for their effort to materialise the road naming.
“For the past 10 years, MBKS and Guro City not only build social, cultural and economic links, it also contributes to direct benefits to our local, regional and national through trade and tourism,” he pointed out.
