SADONG JAYA: Road users, especially those using rural roads in Samarahan Division, have been advised to take precautions while driving.
They should also stick to road safety and traffic rules during the school holidays.
Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo said that the number of vehicles in Samarahan Division has increased, especially on roads through Asajaya and Sadong Jaya, due to the holiday season.
“The Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and other relevant agencies are jointly organising the Kota Samarahan Division Road Safety Campaign to spread awareness among road users on safety to reduce the number of accidents,” he said when officiating at the campaign at Gerai Penjaja Semera, Sadong Jaya yesterday.
Aidel, who is also Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, said that road users must stay alert due to the increased number of vehicles, especially on roads through Asajaya and Sadong Jaya as they are in rural areas.
“That is why we want road users to be more careful and please abide by the traffic rules and speed limit set by the authorities.
“Also, through the campaign, road accidents can be avoided as the number of accidents in the division has increased,” he added.
Furthermore, Aidel added that some roads are still under construction across the state.
“Some road users will opt to use the coastal road to travel up north. There are ongoing works particularly on the Second Trunk Road here.
“The Second Trunk Road goes from Samarahan to Sibu Division which is being developed by the state government,” he said.
“The project, once completed, will help in distributing traffic in Samarahan area and its surrounding,” added Aidel.
Also present were Simunjan district police chief representative ASP Honchin Ludu and JPJ director Norizan Jili.
