PADAWAN: A farm road will be built for the people of Kampung Biya Jaber to go to their farms.

“The project is under the rural transformation programme (RTP) and the cost of building it is RM500,000,” said Assistant Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

He said this after the earth breaking ceremony for the new road access from the school to Kampung Jaber, which is yet to be connected by road.

Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong assemblyman, said the new agricultural road to the village is agreed by the villagers. All have given permission for their land to be used for the construction.

“They will not need the compensation for their land for the moment, but they gave us permit to their land to make way for the road construction,” he explained.

According to Dr Jerip, the road will be over a distance of 3.2 kilometre, but requires the use of 17 culvert pipes which will complicate few things including having to spend almost half of the cost for this purpose (culvert constructions).

“That is why in the first phase of the construction, it will be a dirt road from the school to the village because of the number of culvert pipes needed.

“For the second phase, the road will have gravels and then moves on to asphalts. Nevertheless, we will need to see how we can allocate the fund to complete this phase. We hope that the construction will be quick to move on to the next phase,” he said.

Dr Jerip added that the duration of the project would take eight months to complete and he hoped the contractor could finish the road by September.

“I want to thank the Public Works Department (JKR) for the proposal and also the villagers for their cooperation including giving permission to use their land for the construction,” said Dr Jerip.

The assistant minister hoped that the villagers would be patient. When the road is completed, the will be able to open up their land and have easy access to their farms and elsewhere in the coming months.
