KUCHING: A driver under the influence of alcohol thought he could sneak from Padawan to Kuching despite the inter-district travel ban.

The man, aged in his 20s, didn’t get far because he was stopped and arrested at a roadblock mounted at Jalan Lapangan Terbang at 3.15am this morning.

Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said when law enforcers inspected the man’s vehicle, he was uncooperative and uttered profanities against the officers.

“The man also failed to give a valid reason for travelling from Padawan to Kuching during the ongoing conditional movement control order (CMCO) period,” he said in a statement today.

The suspect arrested by police this morning.

The man is currently remanded to facilitate investigations under Sections 186 and 509 of the Penal Code, and Regulation 5 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) (No.6) Regulations 2020.

Awang Din reminded the public to adhere to the rules during the CMCO period.

“The public should not drive when intoxicated as it will not only endanger one’s life but also the others,” he said.
