SIBU: Those intending to enter Sibu town have been warned not to do so as police have closed all entry points.

Sibu OCPD ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit confirmed this, saying police personnel manning roadblocks during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) would ask motorists with no valid travel permits to turn back immediately.

“We have set up roadblocks at all entry points. In Jalan Paradom, for example, we will ensure that those without travel permit will not be able to pass through to the town. Instead we will ask them to turn back,” he said.

The move, he stressed, was to prevent the transmission of the Covid-19 virus.

During this festive season, ACP Stanley said his men had also conducted operations on business premises pertaining to their compliance to the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the Health Ministry.

“From our inspection on businesses that have been allowed to operate during the CMCO, we have found that all have complied to the SOP.”

ACP Stanley said as it was rather quiet in town areas during Aidilfitri, they had shifted their attention to housing estates with major concentrations of people.

“We have also found that people in housing estates have also been following the SOP with regard to Raya visiting.”
