KUCHING: It’s a dream come true for the people of Telang Usan and Mulu as the Highland Development Agency (HDA) had been given RM1.5 billion to their roads and implement other infrastructural projects.
In connection with this, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau has urged them to fully support the implementation of these projects.
He said the roads would lead to or pass near longhouses and villages in Telang Usan and Mulu areas.
“Please give your full support because when these projects are completed, they will benefit all of you. We have been praying so hard for these projects so I hope nobody would try to stop them,” he said to reporters after attending a contract signing ceremony for HDA projects here yesterday.
The projects are: 41 roads, 20 water supplies, and two electricity supplies.
Dennis thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for having approved RM1.5 billion for implementing the projects.
“Today (yesterday) it is proven that the state government and our chief minister is not just giving empty talk. After all, eight contracts were signed for the building of 41 roads and other facilities/amenities,” he said.
“Last time we heard about rural development under the Rural Development Ministry but when we sent our applications the federal government always said they would be implemented in the next Malaysia Plan, but that also never came.”
Dennis also pointed out that implementing development projects in Telang Usan and Mulu would be tough due to the distances between the scattered villages, transportation problems and high cost of building materials.
