KUCHING: Several roads will be closed temporarily to accommodate the 78th birthday celebrations of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
According to Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, the main event, featuring a parade and grand assembly, will take place on Saturday (Oct 12), from 6 am to 12 pm at Padang Merdeka.
“To ensure the smooth running of the event and manage traffic flow, the police will implement road closures on the following dates, times, and locations,” he said in a statement.
On Oct 8 and 9, the roads that closed from 6 am to 12 pm for rehearsals included the RTM traffic light road, the slip road to Padang Merdeka, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg from Jalan Main Bazaar and Jalan Gambir to Padang Merdeka, as well as Jalan Wawasan to Padang Merdeka.
On Oct 10 and 12, the affected roads will include the RTM slip road/traffic light to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Wawasan from Wayang Street, Jalan Main Bazaar from Wayang Street, Temple Street, Jalan McDougall, and the Old CourtHouse road heading to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg.
Road closures will take place from 6 am to 12 pm on Oct 10 for the full rehearsal and from 4 am to 12 pm on Oct 12 for the parade and grand assembly.
